Forms of protection of life in the aquatic environment of Europe
Water is of fundamental importance to humans. It is used in every area of our lives. Water is also the place where other species live. However, it is polluted by all kinds of human activities. On average there are less water resources for one Pole than for an average citizen of Europe. In this article the problem of water purity, forms of life protection and effective ways of limiting the pollution of these bodies of water will be presented.
There are mainly two types of water pollution:
– Natural factors (e.g. increased iron, increased salinity).
– Artificial factors (mainly human influence).
Artificially produced pollutants are the most serious, mainly due to their ubiquity and quantity. Pollution caused by the use of pesticides, fertilizers and municipal and industrial waste is the most common. Illegal incidents such as dumping sewage into water bodies contribute to their deterioration. Living organisms such as E. coli bacteria can also be dangerous. Due to high pollution of water bodies, various animals have problems with health and growth. In extreme cases, they die, causing some species to be on the verge of extinction.
Pelecus Cultratus
It is a species of fish from the carp family. It is found in free-flowing and standing waters, It is found in the basins of the Baltic Sea, the Black Sea, the Azov Sea, the Caspian Sea and the Aral Sea. It reaches from 30 to 60 cm long and weighing up to 2 kg. It is endangered because the man is creating more and more pressures on its natural environment.
Cetorhinus maximus
This is a shark – cosmopolitan migratory species that feeds on plankton. It is found in all oceans with a temperate climate. It reaches 7-11 m in length and its body weight is 4.65 t. At extinction is because humans have overexploited it to the point where some have disappeared and others need protection.
The forms of protection for aquatic environments and the organisms that live in them are:
– National Parks,
– Landscape parks,
– Natura 2000" areas.
– IUCN ,,International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources".
– WWF ,,World Wide Fund for Nature Conservation"
– Greenpeace
What can be done to improve the state of the waters?
-The first thing we should do is definitely eliminate fishing that is done clandestinely. Illegal fishing should be removed as soon as possible, for the sake of the water, and the environment. It has a huge impact on the aquatic environment surrounding us from many factors, such as over fishing of living beings in the seas, or oceans can lead to a shortage.
-We should prevent and control to a large extent the pollution that falls into the sea and oceans. Especially we should pay attention to substances or garbage which are caused by human activities on Earth. Such activities lead to excessive pollution of our water resources, which translates into negative effects on human health, through poor release of oxygen and elements necessary for life.
– A small percentage of water areas, in particular, should be protected. Of course, protection should be introduced gradually, and applied as much as possible. This action can especially help with the excessive
pollution and destruction of water resources.
– A beneficial solution to this problem could be investment in more systems that will help us filter water and purify it properly. By acquiring such equipment, our water resources could be noticeably increased, and damaged water could be given new life.
How can you help?
People want to contribute to water saving and water purification. Common practices of people are:
-taking showers instead of bathing,
-using disposable paper straws,
-using reusable bottles,
-using reusable bags,
-choosing products in paper packaging.
